Kaplan Cambridge teaches English in a city of roughly 145,000 people built around one of the oldest universities in the world. That scale is the point: Cambridge is small enough to cross on foot or by bike, and the student population is large enough that a language learner is unremarkable rather than conspicuous.
Three courses are bookable. General English at 15 lessons a week leaves afternoons free. Semi-Intensive adds hours for students who want more contact time. Intensive English is the heaviest and the usual choice before an exam or a university application. All three run from a single week to 52, which is what makes the school workable both for a summer and for a full year.
Classes hold 12 to 20 students; minimum age 16. Kaplan runs schools across the UK, Ireland, the United States and Canada, so a level reached in Cambridge is recognised if you move on to another Kaplan school.
Two things to weigh before booking. Cambridge is expensive by UK standards — it is a university city with limited housing, and that shows in accommodation prices more than in tuition. And it is quiet: the nightlife is pubs and college bars rather than clubs, which suits some students and not others. London is under an hour by train when it does not. The price table below sets out what each week costs across the year.
